Every 16 bars there is a new top couple starting the first 16 bars of basic pattern, while third couple starts the second 16 bars of basic pattern (cf. basic version of the dance). Thus, starting in the order 1234, after 16 bars we have 2413 (couples 2 and 1 now dancing), after 32 bars 4321 (couples 4 and 2 now dancing) after 48 bars 3142 (couples 3 and 4 now dancing), after 64 bars the dances finishes back in the order 1234. All couples have danced the two parts of the basic pattern once.

Note 1: The upper half of the set is regarded as the Northern Hemisphere, where the cyclones move anticlockwise, hence all the movements are anticlockwise; the lower half, “Down Under”, is regarded as the Southern Hemisphere, with clockwise spiraling cyclones.

Note 2: The fugue resembles the reversed seasons in the Hemispheres, with shared conditions only in spring and autumn.

This dance was devised for Eva and Brian, who moved from Austria to Australia, by friends from the Vienna Branch (Felix Hamelbeck and Beatrix Wepner). It was an honour that they joined the group though only for a short time.

For teaching one may start with the There are no Kangaroos in Austria (Basic Version) before switching to the advanced version.

There is a video of the dance at the webpage for The Vienna Book.
