The dance refers to “The Six-fingered Man”. The author’s comments are:
bars 1–8: The Fateful meeting of the Stranger and the Spanish sword maker.
bars 9–40: The son’s lifelong search for the stranger who killed his father, known to him only as the “Six-Fingered Man”.
Bars 41–48: The final last chase through the castle, culminating, at last, in the climatic face-to-face meeting with the Six-Fingered Man.
The title is meant to be humorous - a play on words - the dance is made up of six figures.
Editor’s note: as the dance refers to “The Six-Fingered Man”, that name has been added as a spelling alias to help those who search using that more intuitive name.
