The Peat Road was chosen as the 50th Tartan Ball Reel to celebrate 50 years of the Tartan Ball in the Royal York Hotel, Toronto. February 16th 2013

The Peat Road: is a narrow, single track road that twists & turns with few passing places & is the “short cut” between Finsbay & Leverburgh in South Harris, one of the islands of the Outer Hebrides in Scotland. The Peat Road winds along the shores of Loch Langabhat & over the moor, past the peat beds, where the crofters cut & stack the peat. Once dried, it is transported to their croft houses & used as fuel.
