Starts with 1st couple on the opposite sides.

Various versions of this dance exist. In March 2007 there was a discussion on the Strathspey List (messages 48324, 48328, 48344) of a variant in a 3C/4L set, 8 x 48. In that version, on [45–48], each couple turns to the correct side to proceed.

In alternative versions the bars [9–16] and [17–24] can be interchanged, then 1W starts through and down on bar 9.

The version given in The Reel #18 is the 40 bar version but it is attributed to Patrick G. Bankart and entered in the database as The Flight of the Sand-Martins. See discussion in issue 2369.
