Description

There is a mistake on this programme due to the name for the dance Seann Triubhas Willichan being written incorrectly. (I know it should probably be done by the author of the programme, but I have informed her, and anyway previously clicking on the name of the dance as written got me to the right dance, but now it doesn’t.) As I am directly my students to this, please could you update it? Thanks, Annabel

There is a considerable amount of background material on “Triubhas” vs. “Truibhas” on the “Extra Info” tab of the entry for Seann Triubhas Willichan. Please refer to that page for more information. The general consensus among people who have looked into this and/or are Gaelic speakers seems to be that “Truibhas” (as given in the first – 1975 – edition of RSCDS Book 27) is an error and that “Triubhas” (as given in the 1984 reprint of Book 27 and the recent combined A5 edition of Books 25–30) is correct.

The dance programme in question now refers to “Seann Triubhas”, the solo highland dance, which is probably not what is intended. The database does contain an entry for a Seann Truibhas for Four, by Pat Scrimgeour, but this is probably due to how it is spelled in the original publication, A Gatineau Gathering, which I personally do not have access to. That entry should probably have a spelling alias for “Triubhas” just so it will be found if people are looking for that spelling.

In a nutshell, Elizabeth Harry should probably change her dance list back to point to the Book 27 strathspey rather than the highland dance (I could do it but as a matter of policy I don’t like to mess with other people’s dance lists), but “Triubhas” is the officially approved spelling in recent RSCDS publications such as the current edition of Book 27 and the new combined A5 edition of Books 25–30, and as such is here to stay.

If I am misunderstanding the nature of the problem then by all means let me know.
