Assigned to

Priority

Disposition

Description

While listening to a snippet of a recording of a tune referred to as Hot Punch (http://my.strathspey.org/dd/tune/713/) I thought that its actually the same tune as Orange and Blue which I see already has several other aliases.

Google found me https://thesession.org/tunes/4937 and http://abcnotation.com/tunePage?a=www.pghardy.net/concertina/tunebooks/pgh_session_tunebook/0367 as confirmation of my somewhat shaky musical abilities. Would it make sense to add another cross reference between these two? Cheers, Murrough.

It’s “Hot Punch” when it is a jig and “Orange and Blue” when it is a strathspey. That sort of thing happens occasionally; for example, there is a very well-known strathspey by James Scott Skinner called The Laird of Drumblair which he published also as a reel under the name of Angus Campbell.

I agree that it is worth pointing out the connection between these tunes, but I would not advise lumping them together under one single entry plus an alias because they do tend to lead separate lives.

Many thanks for the explanation and fix.

I first came across Orange and Blue as the main tune in the Peter White recording of The Celtic Brooch by Hugh Foss where its given that name although actually played as a jig - so I guess in the real world their separate lives get mixed up occasionally.

PS I didnt get a (requested) email for your fix message though I always did in the past when submitting issues.
