The E-crib for this dance claims that on bar 17, “1c turn BH moving down” (and this is echoed in Keith’s diagram for the dance) but the description of the dance in Book 45 does not mention this at all – the instructions say “1st couple turn with both hands once round, dance down to third place and retain nearer hands”, which according to Occam’s Razor suggests that the turn takes place in top place.
I’ve personally never seen it danced with 1st couple moving down and there is no need for it, so it may be a regional variation. This variation does show up in the Younger Hall demonstration video on YouTube (see http://my.strathspey.org/dd/dancevideo/310/), which I have accordingly downgraded to “Good”.

Thanks, Anselm. I was probably thinking of our classes, where the sets tend to be too small, and the phrasing shaky, so that there is a tendency for 1pl to get crowded. Crib corrected. Eric
