Issue 1433: Erroneous reference to recording

Object
L'Eté à Paris (Dance)
Submitter
Kenneth J Reid
Assigned to
Viktor Lehmann
Priority
Normal
Disposition
Fixed
Description

The recommended recording for this dance is on a CD “Cherry Blossom Time” by Gordon Shand, track 6. Track 6 on this CD is “Down Side Up” by John Drewry, an 8 x 32 reel. In fact there is no 8 x 40 reel on this CD, and therefore not surprisingly, no track titled Summer in Paris. A correction is obviously required.

Hello Kenneth, Thanks for raising this. The entry in SCDDB for the Cherry Blossom Time album by Gordon Shand (http://my.strathspey.org/dd/album/912/) mentions 27 tracks which seems enough for two normal CDs.

Searching a bit I found there was a previous discussion of this on the strathspey mailing list: http://www.strathspey.org/lists/strathspey%40strathspey.org/t/63876/

From that message it seems the current SCDDB entry has the tracks from the two volumes reversed, but if the second CD is unavailable and if no one has it, its hard to check.

Perhaps this album entry should be split into two, one for each volume (assuming the second one still exists). Hopefully one of the more experienced SCDDB editors might comment on what the best approach is. Cheers, Murrough.

The general policy for “albums” consisting of multiple media (CDs or LPs) is to number all the tracks on the various media from the first on the first medium through to the last on the last medium.

If the album in question has been put out as both a multi-CD set and a single CD containing a subset of the recordings included on the former, these should be carried in the database as separate items, each with its own correct publisher-provided media ID number, track list, and CDDB ID.

If no editor owns a copy of the single-CD “volume 1”, we would welcome a scanned copy of that CD’s booklet and/or jewel case backside so we can enter it into the database. Send it to scddb-submissions@strathspey.org.

Hi Kenneth, well, this CAN be, as THIS CD is referencing a double CD, and on the first one, track number 6 might be the recording for Summer in Paris. The second half of this CD was separately issued under the name “Cherry Blossom Time Volume 1” (additionally featured in our database) where indeed track number 6 would be the Drewry dance. No changes required though, as the entry is correct. Thanks for your submission though!
