To Whom It May Concern:
Miss Jean Stewart, the title tune for My Only Jo and Dearie, O, is actually a composition of William Marshall, published in his 1788 “Collection of Strathspey Reels” as Miss Jean Stewart’s Reel and re-published in “William Marshall’s Scottish Melodies” ed. Randy Miller. I do not own the book in which this dance was published, so I can’t confirm whether this error was on the part of the dance publisher or of SCDDB, but I think it is worthwhile to give one of my favorite Scottish composers credit where it is due.
Respectfully, Elizabeth Anderson, Boston

Thank you for the heads-up! I’m away from my copy of Marshall’s collections right now but will look into this when I have returned home. I’m a great fan of William Marshall’s myself and am all in favour of getting his tunes properly attributed in the database. (Composer attributions in the older RSCDS books can be haphazard at times so I wouldn’t be in the least surprised.)
The Traditional Tune Archive seems to suggest that you’re right but I’ll check the original source even so.
