Looking on the web this dance seems to exist in several traditions (Irish, English, Scottish, Contra). One site (https://www.webfeet.org/eceilidh/dances/waves-of-tory.html) acknowledges that dancers are likely to encounter different versions, though most seem to be 5 couples and 48 bars.

Perhaps its best to align the SCDDB entry to the Minicrib (J48, 5/5L) and maybe add a note that this is just one of several possible variants?

But note that the music is a Reel for 32 bars. Just switching to J48 5C will create a new discrepancy. More thought needed. Eric

Well, the description of the crib shows for sure the version that can be seen and found most, 48 bars. The header of the crib though states it is “40 bars”, when the bar count below is 48. Would be good to change 40 to 48 for a start. The recording though is a different problem. It will NEVER fit ANY of the circulating descriptions I have seen so far, being just 32 bars. IF that’s correct. I don’t have the recording, otherwise I would have simple listen to it if the cover states plain wrong info which can always happen as we all know.

I have changed the dance to “48 bars” instead of “40 bars” and added all recordings (three with 48 bars, two with 32 bars) plus added additional notes to the dance. The crib should be adapted though to state “48 bars” too, and then we should be good.

See issue 3043 for further discussions. Dance has been changed to 5cpl/5cpl, which fits the existing crib AND video 1 (Instructional video from the RSCDS archive) and could be considered to be the “official” Scottish version of this dance which is - as being said already - known in Ireland and England too, but with different structures and formations.
