Issue 1583: Title of dance

Object
Mrs. Frances MacCullough (Dance)
Submitter
John Bottriell (pilotjrb)
Assigned to
Murrough Landon
Priority
Normal
Disposition
Fixed
Description

The Dance title appears spelled as “MacCullough” although the dedication appears as “MacCulloch”. I’m not certain if this is a transcription issue, but I am preparing a separate submission to the database for a different dance called simply “Fran McCulloch” 32J 3/4L by John Bowie Dickson with video dedicated to the same person.

I do not have the book but I see its spelled MacCullough on the Montreal SCD website and MacCulloch on the TAC Books website. I will email Holly Boyd to check.

Holly Boyd replied as follows:

Ah, you open up a can of worms here ! I was the editor of Montreal Moments and we asked for dances from our membership to include in the book. Mrs. Frances MacCullough was submitted by Alex Small and copied out and printed exactly as he had given it to us. At the launch of the book, Phyllis MacCulloch, daughter of Frances, came up to tell me that we (well Alex) had spelled her mother’s name wrong. So - what do I do? Use the name Alex gave the dance or fix it so that it is spelled correctly. I’ve chosen to do nothing !! We don’t have any more copies of the book. It is only available from TACbooks as an ebook (probably with MacCullough - I didn’t do the conversion) and Alex has passed on so I can’t ask him what he’d like to do.

I have added a spelling alias Mrs. Frances MacCulloch and a note in the extra info.
