Description

Hi, I have this very old LP and was checking SCDDB’s album entry in case you had a publication date, and I noticed two minor discrepancies. As backup, I can email pictures of front and back of LP sleeve if you wish. A) The artist shown on the sleeve is not George B Stirrat as you currently have it but “George Stirrat and his Scottish Dance Band”, i.e. the other alias. B) the best title is “Favourite Scottish Dances” of if you insist “7 Favourite Scottish Dances”, without the #5; while the sleeve front actually says “7 Favourite Scottish Dances…” with the trailing periods, on the sleeve back title there are no final periods or initial 7. (There are 7 tracks, obviously.) As to the “#5”, I think this is superfluous and suspect this came from the “Number 5” placed above the title on the sleeve front, which was simply to note that this LP was the fifth LP in the “Scottish Dance Series” that Thistle Records were then producing. I see that another album that you list for George Stirrat has “#4” at the end , and this may have been the “Number four” in Thistle’s LP series. which I do not have, but if that other album title is correctly given as “7 Favourite Dances” without the “Scottish”, then the album titles are not identical and you do not need the #4 and #5 tags. Incidentally nos. 1/2/3 in Thistle’s LP series were three other LPs listed as SCDDB albums, with music by Peter White; I have all these LPs also.

Thanks Adrian. I removed the #5 from the title and assigned Stirrat+Band as the artist.
