Description

We attended a teaching holiday with Mervyn Short and Duke of Roxburgh’s Reel was taught. I prepared the crib sheet through My Strathspey and noticed that there is a discrepancy in the diagrams. Checking MMM - Bar 12 - 1’s dance a petronella turn not the figure that is indicated (I think!!) . What a valuable resource though! Many thanks. Lee Pratt

The e-crib correctly specifies that 1c petronella for [11-12].
The diagram shows 1c passing Rsh in the middle, whereas in a petronella 1c will pass Lsh and pivot R on arrival in the sideline. In Minicrib 1c makes a RH turn, which also disagrees with the original.

I base my opinion on an original text that I have. Can some e-crib team member please check if any more recent version has made a change here?

I don’t own a copy of the revised MMM. Can some team member please fix the crib and the diagram if needed? Is the Minicrib correct? Eric

Hi Eric,

In Miss Milligan’s Miscellany of SCD 3rd edition 2007, bars 9-12 are exactly
[9-12] 2nd and 3rd couples continue to set while 1st couple dance a petronella tum to finish with 1st woman between 2nd and 3rd men, and 1st man between 2nd and 3rd women.

E-crib and MiniCrib are fine.
The diagram should probably be fixed.

Best regards
Roland
