Description

Sue didn’t realize this when she wrote it but the diagonal reels are actually (also) weasel reels. The dance is quite nice and I think people looking for dances with weasel reels should be helped to find it.

Also, I submitted a video of the dance but it hasn’t appeared yet, Let me know if there was a problem with it.

It is nothing to do with this dance, but I also submitted a video for Newton Shore which is coming up on our Valentine Ball program so I am hoping our attendees will have it to view.

thanks

Bruce

Hmm. Those do not quite look like Weasel reels to me. The axis is changing after 4 bars and within each 4 bars the dancers who are chasing around pass the end of the reel without entering it and those in the (half) reel do not leave it. So I do not think its the same pattern.

I did check for videos. It looks as though you used the 2nd option in the Add menu “Upload video”. Unfortunately although the option remains enabled it has not worked for years - and the editing team get no notification that people have tried it. If you are able to upload the video to youtube or vimeo then please try again using the first Add option “Add video (from youtube/vimeo)”. That should work.

Sorry Bruce, but I agree with Murrough on this one.

These are definitely not half weasel reels.

They are half reels of four with the other corners dancing round the outside.

‘Weasel’ reels have the outside dancers joining in the reel when they get to the ends and the inside dancers leaving the reels when they also get to the ends.

Iain

Have to agree with Murrough and Ian. NO weasel reels here.

I remember hearing the expression “reel in a chase” which sounds more appropriate here (no mixing between the two). Perhaps there are enough other dances with something like that to add it as a separate named formation. Though searching for dances with both some kind of reel and a chase figure separately mentioned might be enough to find them?

But for the moment I will mark this one as ignored given the balance of opinions.
