The original instructions stipulate that “3rd/1st couples Allemande while 2nd/4th Poussette”. This leads to a very weird effect where 1st couple starts the allemande from 3rd place going down while 4th couple is forced to start the poussette towards the women’s side and going up. The original instructions also say “moving toward their respective ends and mirroring each other”, but there is no symmetry to be found here.
My hypothesis is that this is an error in the original instructions and these should in fact say “3rd/4th couples Allemande while 2nd/1st Poussette”. This would mean that the end couples dance the allemande (3rd couple going towards the women’s side and up as usual, 4th couple going towards the men’s side and down) while the middle couples dance the poussette (2nd couple from second place going towards the women’s side and up, 1st couple from third place going towards the men’s side and down.) This results in two formations that are nicely centrally symmetric, and it is reasonable to assume that this is what was originally intended. (If we want to be picky, the formation in the bottom half of the set according to the original instructions is not an allepousse at all – it might be more appropriately described as an inverted poussealle, a formation that still needs to get traction in the repertoire.)
I have been in touch with Livia Kohn (the deviser) and she says that “there are errors in the print version” and “I think you are right”. I consider this sufficient evidence to add an explanation to the database, and to change the MiniCrib and diagram accordingly. What do you think?

Hey Keith, hey minicrib-Team, thanks for the prompt correction, BUT there is still an error. On bar 25, cpls 4 & 1 are in wrong positions. Cpl 1 should be in third place, doing the poussette, cpls 4 should be in 4th place, doing the reverse allemande. (Otherwise, 4th cpl wouldn’t progress at all).

Further comment, to the minicrib-team: currently it states “as 4s Poussette up”. Apart from that having to change from 4s to 1s, the poussette is NOT going up; 1s dance it as if they were leading couple, so they start to the men’s side, dancing the formation DOWN into fourth place ;-)

To be more precise, 1st couple dances the poussette as a second couple (1st man is moving forward) but the poussette (like the allemande) is rotated 180° because it is in the bottom half of the set.
