Description

Something wrong with the crib, bars 17-24 ? How to fit into 8 bars the following : set (2 bars) + 4H round (probably 4 bars, could be 2) + turn partner 2H (2 bars) + 4H round again (4 bars, or 2 bars ?) If you do both the 4Hs round in 2 bars with a 2H turn in between, it’s dizzying.

Only finding this out because it’s on a local dance programme, and we tried to practice.

Does anyone have exoerience of / thoughts on this dance ?

I have made a crib of my own, starting from the original instructions. For both [19-20] and [23-24] Drewry writes “dance 4 hands round to the left”. That means twice a full 4 hands circle and a BH turn in 6 bars. That is very difficult, even if the circle is drawn in small and the dancers cheat to move on along the circle during the BH turn.

If both circles go only half round, the figure is easy to dance. Think of “Wind on Loch Fyne” for a similar formation. Could Drewry have meant “halfway” both times?

Can others who know this and other Drewry dances please tell us if these are likely to be half or full circles? Help needed. Eric
