Issue 918: Error in Track Listing - Scottish Reform Recordings list

Object
Scottish Reform (Recording)
Submitter

Assigned to

Priority

Description

The Recordings list for “Scottish Reform” includes one for David South and his band.

The listing states that the first tune is Kenmure’s On and Awa’ with the name tune (Scottish Reform) listed as 3rd tune.

I have listened to the clip supplied and the clip sounds to me like Scottish Reform, thus first tune as you would expect, and not Kenmure’s.

I am very familiar with Kenmure’s, thus I am sure that is not the tune in the clip. I have also listened to the clip several times with the score for Scottish Reform in front of me (Originally Ours page 10)

I know that track listings are often wrong due to producer error so please do not take this bug report as a criticism of SCDDB which is a great resource. I seek only to increase the accuracy.

Hi Anselm, seems to be an ongoing pattern with the “wrong” clip being played, obviously not the first one in the list… This is the third issue of that kind I came across in the last hours. Any ideas?

I do not know how many recordings have those useful 16 second clips but its a lot. So even three errors is quite a small fraction. Probably compatible with typical rates of human error.

Still, it would indeed be nice to fix (or just remove) the ones that have been reported as linking to the wrong clip.

The 16-second clips are generated automatically from the repository of dance tracks I use on my teaching PC. Some of these albums have tracks that are in the wrong order vs. the database (for whatever reasons – sometimes the track order differs between a CD version and an LP or MC version of the album, and sometimes the database or my dance track PC are simply in error, probably the latter). This causes some 16-second clips to be associated with the wrong dance.

I’ve recently come into a huge number of dance CDs that I didn’t have before, and one project I keep putting off is generating 16-second clips for all tracks that don’t have any (which mostly involves finding the script I’ve been using before, getting rid of any bit rot and letting it churn away overnight). This would probably be as good a point in time as any to sort out the mismatches, too, so I’ll have to check the issue list for any albums which include mismatches and look into these – chances are that if an album has one mismatch, it has others, too.
