Description

My aunt, Mina Corson, was a deviser of dances, the most popular of which is probably Miss Allie Anderson. She still resides in Edinburgh.

She taught and examined for the RSCDS at St Andrews Summer School and internationally. This could be confirmed by the RSCDS. I have her RSCDS examiners notes and teaching noteson the examination dances. She visited South Africa, Winnipeg ( sources her photo album and correspondence with Winnipeg branch). She was a member of the 1950s international demonstration team with Jean Yates, Alice Mann Stanley (Wilkey?). I have photographs of these teams and could find out the locations. I also have newspaper cuttings which sadly are not dated. One such visit was to Nice in 1952

Was involved with the Edinburgh Fancy for several years.

Dear Janet,

thanks a lot for the information about Mina Corson.

I have added the information as Extra Info to the SCDDB entry and will close the issue for now.

However, we are always interested in information about people, dances etc in the database. That means whenever you have additional information about her (e.g. birth year) or able to extract an collect more information from the notes, pictures or newspaper cuttings, we are eager to add them.

Two questions about her dances - (a) at the moment SCDDB lists 2 of them, “Miss Allie Anderson” and “George Square of Edinburgh”. Do you know of others we could add to the database? (b) Do you have the original description of “George Square of Edinburgh” or any other dance not included yet? The description of that dance was contributed by someone (you?) and added to SCDDB by another of the SCDDB editors (Eric). Still it would be good to have a scan or photo of the original description.

For contact, please write me directly or use the SCDDB Addigion/Correction interface again, because unfortunately replies to the issue system do not work.

All the best from Vienna, Heiko
