Jimmy (James Stanley) Hamilton was born at Tarholm near Annbank in 1904. He was married to Mary Hamilton of Auchincruive. Their son Stan (also James Stanley) Hamilton was born 1928 in Ayrshire.

Jimmy Hamilton was fiddler and a fisher. Jimmy had his own Scottish Country Dance Band that played at the Pavilion and the Gaiety in Ayr.

In 1966 Jimmy and Mary Hamilton moved from Auchincruive to Canada to be with their son Stan who had emigrated to Canada in 1957. By 1968 Jimmy and Mary Hamilton moved back to Ayr.

Jimmy died in Ayr after a heart attack.

According to the Box and Fiddle archive and Iain Boyd’s book All Kinds Of Everything, Jimmy Hamilton was the composer of the tune Mary Hamilton of Auchincruive that is named after his wife.
