Dunbuy (pronounced dun-boo-eee) is a small rocky island with a hole through the middle like a window. It lies between Siains Castle and the Bullers of Buchan, just to the south of Peterhead. It was visited by Dr. Johnson and Boswell on their tour of Scotland.
Dunbuy comes from the Gaelic “Dun Buidhe” meaning “Yellow Castle”. The rock is reddish-brown. Maybe the “yellow” comes from the droppings of the sea birds which swarm on the rocks in their thousands!
