This dance is a modified version of Wes Clindinning’s “The Belfast Hornpipe” devised in 1989. The only difference is bars 25–28 (Wes used set and cast for 1C), and thus also the direction of the butterfly turns in bars 29–32.

This dance is dedicated to Wes, a superb teacher and fun dancer.

This dance was ‘devised’ by Mel Briscoe during a Workshop by inadvertently changing the last 8 bars. However, that variant was so successful that it made it into a number of dance programs and crib collections… unfortunately under the wrong name “Belfast Hornpipe”.

For example, the dance had been incorporated as "Belfast Hornpipe” in the Ball program at https://dances.e-cribs.org/var/RSCDS_Twin_Cities_Branch_27th_Annual_Grand_Ball.pdf. This has been corrected to “Wes Clindinning’s Hornpipe” in the meantime.

The dance named "Belfast Hornpipe (New Way)” at https://dances.e-cribs.org/var/Cincinnati_Demo_Dances_2007-2008.pdf (there attributed to Mel Briscoe) seemingly also describes a variant of this dance, but with reversed directions of the two turns in the last 8 bars.
