One original text for this dance says: Top couple #1, with back to the music; 2nd couple to their right 4th couple to their left, 3rd couple (bottom couple) facing them. Editors’ note: This is the inverse of the normal SCD numbering.
It also says: “There are five figures, each with an eight bar introduction, when partners bow to each other, then to their corners, except in figure 5, which begins with a Grand Chain”. In that “original” those five figures are different 24, 32 or 64 bar dances.
A very different description was published on a Dance List, there the dance has 4 repeats of one 48-bar figure, followed by a 16 bar Grand Chain.
It could be that there are in fact two distinct dances with the same name.
