Victoria Mines is an old silver mine on the trail between the Inca city of Choquequirao and modern day Yanama in the Peruvian Andes. To get from Choquequirao to Victoria Mines you have to zigzag down a vertical descent of around 1000m to cross the Rio Blanco and then zigzag 2000m vertical ascent up the other side of the valley to get to the mines. The mines are at an altitude of 4130m above sea level and the tailings make a great camping spot after a very long day’s walk. The views are stunning!
In the original book the tune was given as The Hills of Lorne (as for Autumn in Appin). However in issue 2891 the deviser explains this was a mistake and it should be Doon the Burn, Davie Lad.
