The ridge of mountains on the north side of Glen Shiel known as the Five Sisters of Kintail are named after the legendary princesses who stand waiting, looking out over the loch for their husbands-to-be to come from Ireland after the youngest sister was only allowed to leave for Ireland with her suitor on condition that his five brothers returned to marry her five older sisters.
