To the members of the Carlisle and Border Branch Advanced Class, who drink coffee under Kinmont Willie’s portrait in the “Crown and Mitre”. Kinmont Willie, the hero of one of the Border Ballads, was an Armstrong who was captured and imprisoned by the citizens of Carlisle. His fellow Scots made a raid across the Border and rescued him out of Carlisle Castle. In this dance, 1st man represents Kinmont Willie, his partner and 4th couple are the other Scots, while 2nd and 3rd couples are the worthy citizens of Carlisle.
