The earliest publication I can find of this tune is in Blake’s Young Flutist’s Magazine, 1833. The magazine is available as a download from IMSLP. The tune is on page 109. This publication gives the composer as “Nelson”. Wikipedia, “mainlynorfolk.info” and “http://sheetmusicpoint.com” all say that the composer is SIDNEY Nelson, not STEVE Nelson.

(a) added a new person Sidney Nelson;
(b) assigned this tune to him;
© renamed it to The Rose of Allendale which seems the most popular spelling;
(d) added a spelling alias to “Rose of Allandale” (the original name in SCDDB);
(e) also reassigned Bonnie Mary of Argyle to Sidney Nelson.
