Description

I set up dance lists for my beginners to look at after they have learn a dance in class. The 1st video that comes up for Miss Milligan’s Strathspey is not very suitable for this purpose, it has been assigned demonstration quality but because of the really poor music I would not want any of my beginners to view it. There are many demonstration quality videos of this dance and some that really convey the beauty of the dance, the first 3 that appear are all different angles of the same event and are actually unbearable to watch/listen to. I would expect it to be required that any video assigned demonstration quality, should have music that is demonstration quality or at least this should be factored in as to which video is “promoted” as the top video.

Thanks for the feedback.

The editing team try and follow the criteria proposed by Anselm which requires Dem Quality videos have the right choreography and use the right music but does not specify anything about video or audio quality. If there are several Dem Quality videos available there is an algorithm to select one which I believe is just the first one uploaded. The editing team do not have any control over this. And if the dancing is excellent it seems wrong to downgrade a video just to promote a different one.

There has been discussion in the past that there should be an “editor’s pick” option to select the best video to use where only one can be shown (as on dance lists).

Anselm is preparing an update to the website software so I will assign this his to him in case he would like to comment.

For the moment all I can suggest is that you add “Notes” to dances in your dance lists with an explicit link to your preferred video in cases where the system selects a different one.
