The diagram and Eric’s crib are wrong. The 1’s cross back on bar 5,6 to end on own sides (wrong in diagram, correct in crib). They start the GC from there, and end on own sides. No need to cross over at the end of the GC (wrong in crib). 1st and 2nd men do stay facing out.

I think the crib is fine – it says »All G-Ch, 1s crossing, at end …«, which is supposed to mean that the 1s cross over to the other side at the start of the grand chain while the 2s and 3s change places on the sides. The comma after »crossing« is the important bit.
I’m assigning this issue to Keith so the diagram can get fixed.

In a 3C Grand Chain, I like to tell which couple starts across (although this dance follows the default “at the top”). To avoid any misunderstanding, I have changed the text to “All G-Ch, 1c cross to start, at end 1M+2M face out for”.
I try to follow a simple rule: “if anyone misunderstands my text, it needs to be improved.”
