The Scottish Horse was a cavalry regiment, and eventually a brigade, of (mostly expatriate) Scots raised and commanded by John George Stewart-Murray, 8th Duke of Atholl, then styled the Marquis of Tullibardine, during the Second Boer War.
The tune was written by his wife, Katharine Marjory Stewart-Murray, Duchess of Atholl, then known as the Marchioness of Tullibardine.
