A 40-bar jig for three couples in a four-couple longwise set

1–10

1st couple set, dance down between 2nd couple, cast off round 3rd couple, meet and lead up to the top, and cast off to finish left shoulder to left shoulder in the middle of the set in second place. (2nd couple step up on bars 9–10.)

11–14

1st man with 3rd couple, 1st woman with 2nd couple dance right hands across to finish on the first-corner diagonal, 1st couple joining left hands with partner and right hands with first corners.

15–16

1st couple with first corners balance in line while second corners set to each other on the diagonal.

17–20

1st couple, giving left hands, turn once round while corners chase clockwise half-way round the set.

21–24

1st, 2nd, and 3rd men (on the women’s side) and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd women (on the men’s side) dance right hands across to finish on the second-corner diagonal, 1st couple joining left hands with partner and right hands with partner’s second corner person (in own second corner’s place).

25–26

1st couple with second corners balance in line while first corners set to each other on the diagonal.

27–30

1st couple, giving left hands, turn one and a quarter to finish on own sides in second place facing out while corners chase clockwise half-way round the set.

31–36

1st couple cast to their left (1st woman up, 1st man down), dance across, and cast back to second place while 2nd and 3rd couples dance a petronella turn, set to partners, and dance another petronella turn to finish on opposite sides. (NB. On bars 33–34, 1st man dances between 3rd couple and 1st woman dances between 2nd couple.)

37–40

2nd, 1st, and 3rd couples set and, giving right hands, cross to own sides.

Repeat, having passed a couple.
