The Maskin Rung is the pole used to stir whisky malt. A song with this title appears in The Scottish Folksinger by Norman Buchan and Peter Hall. It tells of a maiden who fools an unwanted suitor by dressing up a maskin rung and leaning it against a tree; he thinks it is she and tries to woo her. This song resembles the Child ballad “The Broomfield Wager.”
