The deviser’s instructions:
1–4 – 1’s lead down the middle; 2’s step up on 3 and 4
5–8 – 1’s turn in place; cast up behind the 3’s into 2nd place
9–16 – 1’s and 3’s Right hands Across; Left hands back
17–24 – 1’s, 2’s and 3’s, right shoulder reel along own lines
25–28 – 1’s and 2’s Right hands across
29–32 – Everyone (including the 4’s) turn their partner with their right
Background story: None of these characters are brightest bulbs in the drawer.
2’s need the 1’s help to change a lightbulb.
1’s are eager but in confusion end up helping the 3’s instead. It isn’t until they screw in the 3’s lightbulb (right hands across) that they realize they were supposed to help the 2’s. Therefore, they must unscrew the 3’s lightbulb (left hands back).
2’s and 1’s are now looking for each other and the 3’s, not having any idea of what is going on, follow the others (reel).
Finally, the 1’s get it right and help the 2’s screw in their lightbulb (right hands across). Everyone celebrates getting right (including the 4’s)!
Music: Anything fun and lively.
