According to Tom Roby, back in the very early days of the Strathspey list: »Supposedly J.B. Milne was the owner of a (chain of?) movie theatre(s). In the last 16 bars the active couple represent the movie itself, while the supporting couples provide the screen.«
Richard Goss corroborates this and adds that J.B. also played the 'cello in a band with Angus Fitchet, the tune composer.
Nobody seems to know what the »J.B.« stands for.
Update: The other day, Jimmy Smith of Dundee wrote in to say »His name was John Bannerman Milne, and the headquarters for his movie 'empire' was Bannerman House in South Tay Street, Dundee.«
Search the Strathspey Archive for information on J.B. Milne
