Galadriel, Arwen’s grandmother and a High Elf, was the lady of Lothlorien, a forest of mallorn trees. Mallorn had silver bark, and their leaves did not fall in autumn, but turned golden, then fell in the spring, when the trees flowered with golden blossoms. Galadriel gave Sam Gamgee the mallorn seed he planted where the party tree had stood.
