We can’t use Maxicribs without permission from Reuben Freemantle, and we don’t have that permission (that I know of). Therefore any obvious copies of Maxicribs in the database must be removed. If a dance has a “MaxiCrib” in the database but doesn’t show up either in MiniCribs or Eric’s collection, we should arrange for a proper crib to be added based on the original description (rather than the MaxiCrib). If we can’t locate an original description, the MaxiCrib should simply be deleted with no replacement.

I expect we now all agree that we should not put Maxicribs on SCDDB. The seven dances Anselm lists are all written by Reuben himself. I plead guilty to adding his own Maxicribs to some of his dances, assuming (without asking) that that he would like that. I suggest we leave these Maxicribs for the time being, but remove any we find attached to other dances. Any comments? Eric

We have 13 dances devised by Reuben Freemantle: 7 with Maxicribs, 6 without. All have a link (Online Sources).

Do we let the job like that? My opinion is that we do have to apply the same rule for Reuben Freemantle and for the others devisers i-e write cribs (Eric’s cribs, MiniCribs or SCDDB Contributed Cribs & Diagram) ;-)

We are under no obligation to create any cribs whatsoever, although if someone has the time and inclination to write cribs we don’t refuse them. Having said that, if we’re actively looking for dances to write cribs for, we should probably focus our efforts on dances that are at least mildly popular. (It would be reasonably easy to add a “rating system” that simply counts how often a dance shows up on dance lists, as a rough measure of popularity.)

We are under an obligation to respect copyright, though, so no Maxicribs.
