Hi Martin,

hmm, you have posted that twice… I will set the other one to “ignored”.

Still the points I had posted before:

Until when was it 144 dances?

The cleanest way would be to add a new publication, with the new title and then add the 144 plus the new ones to that one… because the ‘old’ one still exists in the collection of several teachers.

I do not like the way this was done for the Collins Book, which was just renamed meaning that the old title/publication just vanished from the database.

Best wishes, Heiko

SCDDB records what happens in the real world. If an author republishes anything with or without modifications, it is a new publication, and should be recorded as such. All copied content will then carry references to both sources. SCDDB should not attempt to “merge” separate publications into one entry, except for unmodified reprints. For example, the recent “revised” RSCDS books and the original ones have separate entries, but all the older reprints of the “pocket books” count as one.

Authors can create great confusion if a republished version of any dance differs from the original. Then dancers in the same set may be trying to dance conflicting versions. If an author wants to modify a dance, it is far better to give it a new name.

Martin: I know you want your dances to be accessible to all. Please post a link to your new publication “Modern Country Dances in the Scottish Tradition” on the Strathspey Mailing List, so everyone can find it there, and SCDDB will pick it up from there.

I leave this as “new” till SCDDB has entered the new publication. Eric

Hi Eric,

just to be sure, in case Eric missed this… I have assigned this issue already to me when I answered. So I will deal with the issue.

…just to avoid parallel work ;)

But it’s anyway a very good suggestion to post the link to Strathspey server community!

Cheers, Heiko
