Description

The first video requests in its comments that it be removed when a complete one is available. I suggest that might be appropriate, although I love the energy of their dancing they only show the last 24 baras and not, as they say, the important starts of the reels. The dancimation video is inconsistent with the RSCDS directions. The social dance video is not helpful. So I submitted my video which is not perfect but is at least not wrong - shows the whole dance sequence and is performed with only a couple of glitches. I understand this is not a competition, but I urge you to consider what videos on this page are actually useful to the users of Strathspey and to perhaps remove the ones that are not.

Dear all,

I have no time to handle this.

However, since the issue contains a point concerning the dancimation video, I have forwarded the post also to Linda Mae (the dancimation creator).

Cheers, Heiko

I got an answer from Linda Mae that she has made the correction and uploaded the corrected dancimation video.

Well, IMHO this issue can be closed, plz comment if you think I am wrong here. I can understand why someone suggests to delete a video once “a better one” might be there, but to me this is no valid reason for action. I don’t like the idea to delete videos when regarded “too bad to learn from”, as you never know what people get from it. We have categories of quality for that. Heck, so we have 5 “sloppy” videos online - I don’t care. I suggest to simply leave it as is. If the submitter of the first one WANTS it removed for personal or copyright reasons, then he shall contact us again. What do you think? Gives me a better guideline for future handling of such things.

I agree with keeping it for now. We are not awash with excellent videos of that dance and that partial video is described as such. As it is marked Good it will appear as the selected video in places, such as dance lists, where only one video can be shown for space reasons. That is not ideal. But the choice is made on quality (and I think date) and it seems wrong to artificially up/downgrade quality to force a different selection. The ideal of an “editor’s pick” is still on the to do list.

Videos do disappear so in general I think its good to keep them in case a previous favourite goes missing. And while dem quality videos show the choreography well, I find that less perfect videos can often show where typical dancers are likely to go wrong and that can be a useful hint when teaching.
