Description

Hi Anselm,

There’s a 9th track on this disc: Strip the Willow / Drops of Brandy played as an 8x40 slip jig in 9/8 time [to match the dance instructions in Book 1]. Description and track listing from the RSCDS shop is as follows:

" Kenny Thomson and the Wardlaw band give Book 33 their best and, for good measure, add a 9/8 version of Strip the Willow to match the instructions in Book 1.

The Music Makars (8×32 Reel) Stuttgart Strathspey (8×32 Strathspey) MacLeod’s Fancy (4×32 Jig) The Golden Wedding Strathspey (4×40 Strathspey) John of Bon Accord (8×32 Reel) It’s just for Fun (8×32 Jig) Bedrule (8×32 Strathspey) Milton’s Welcome (8×32 Reel) Strip the Willow / Drops of Brandy (8×40 Jig in 9/8 Time)

The back cover lists the 9th track as a 4x40 jig, but the track time is 5:38, which would be consistent with 8x40.

Cheers,

Mark.

Thanks. It looks as though this was originally an LP with 8 tracks and then a 9th trackwas added for the CD version.

The database has the concept that an album can exist on different types of media (with different catalogue numbers) but Im not sure it it handles different number of tracks in each case.

Given the LP/MC are probably unavailable I think it would be simplest just to add that extra track for all perhaps with a note but I will consult first in case there is a policy…

I think in similar cases we have added the CD and LP as separate Albums. This makes sense because once we have collections of Albums and Recordings, people will want to express that they have either the CD or the LP or both. Also for some media the order of the tracks varies between the CD and the LP issue, which would be intractable within the same Album record.

OK, I have added a new album for the LP/MC - to keep the CDDB ID with the original album now for the CD and with the extra track.

Mark, if you can supply information about the tunes played on that recording of Strip the Willow they can be added to the new entry for it.
