Description

Three entries for one tune: The Queen’s welcome to Duart Castle (5242); The Queen visits Duart Castle (5568); Queen Vic’s washing day (4434). The latter, attributed to Charlie Jemmett (album 253), is now thought to be a local, informal title for the tune. Calum MacLean is credited with the tune (5568) on: Dick Black and his Scottish Dance Band - The sound of the Lothians. (Glasgow: Igus, 2009.)

Thanks for this. It does seem we have duplicate or triplicate entries here.

However I notice that the dance is marked as a march and some of the recordings are also marches, so presumably 2/4 time, whereas others are described as jigs. Tune #5568 has one of each. Mitch, do you know if these assignments are all correct? [You should be able to update this issue via the link at the bottom of the mail the system will hopefully send you].

I think if the same basic tune is arranged with different time signatures the database may keep an entry for each one. (Im aware of Hot Punch vs Orange and Blue). Anselm may have an opinion on this.

And since there are two different composers credited with this tune (or its arrangement?) I am reluctant to merge all three. For the moment it seems reasonable to merge two of them, eg #5242 and #5568, and add cross reference notes to this issue.
