Description

In the spirit of offering TLC for a book I have found the following: Four tunes in Book 13 (my copy is a 1951 edition) are not listed under the tunes tab for Book 13. These tunes do appear in the tunes section of scddb, and already have references to Book 13 and the dances they are printed with. The four tunes – dances are:

Mrs Hay of Yester’s Reel – The Duran Ranger Mrs Dundas of Arniston – The Highland Reel Oh! as I was kissed yestreen – A Kiss for Nothing The Scottish Legacy – Reel of the 51st Division

Thanks. The database editors are generally not knowledgeable about tunes and hence a bit wary of tune related issues and often slow to respond to them. Its still good to try and sort them out though. Some of these tunes may have been originally omitted due to possible confusions (safer to omit than link the wrong one).

Mrs Hay of Yester’s Reel (https://my.strathspey.org/dd/tune/1318/): the database also has Miss Hay of Yester (https://my.strathspey.org/dd/tune/1190/) for which an alias Mrs Hay of Yester is assigned. It seems possible tunes #1190 and #1318 are duplicates. John Chambers ABC tune finder only knows about the “Miss” version but she seems to exist in apparently similar variations in both C and D major. For the moment I added #1318 to book 13 and put notes in each tune that they may be duplicates. Maybe one day someone will resolve this.

Mrs Dundas of Arniston (https://my.strathspey.org/dd/tune/2670/): again the database also has a Miss Dundas of Arniston (https://my.strathspey.org/dd/tune/4831/) but by Nathaniel rather than William Gow, so this one probably really is different. Another search of the ABC tune finder for “Dundas of Arniston” shows a wealth of sources with Mrs, Miss or neither and with/without Reel and again in C or D major. Mrs also has a strathspey to her name. For this one it does seem reasonable to link Mrs to book 13 and add an alias with the Reel suffix.

Oh! as I was kissed yestreen: mercifully only one option in the database (albeit with alias). Added to book 13.

The Scottish Legacy: ditto.
