Description

Please add the fourth dance McNeil of Barra Tir Nan Og (Land of The Eternal Young) is also a Traditional Collected Dance but not collected by Mrs MacNab. It should though be included with her other collected dances. It later was published as a leaflet and now appears in RSCDS 2014 book. The third dance is a modern dance by Robert Campbell of Ontario called From Scotia’s Shores we’re noo Awa’ which later appeared in a leaflet and now appears in the same RSCDS 2014 book. Being modern this should not be included with the MacNab dances. Many thanks

Hmmm. The RSCDS archives title for this publication is “Two Traditional Scottish Dances - 8th Set”, not Four. See https://archive.rscds.org/index.php/two-traditional-scottish-dances-8th-set

Is this a mistake which should be reported to the RSCDS archivist?

Given the title I only looked for two dances in your list of MacNab dances in this leaflet series. I see you do actually list a 4th item.

Can you confirm or correct the actual title of this 8th set?

Hello Murrough, I can confirm that 8th Set has 4 dances but has the title Two Traditional …and 9th Set has 3 dances but has the title Two Traditional … The reason for this apparent mismatch is the Two Trad… dances in each case are collected by Mrs MacNab whereas the other dances are one Trad collected by Iain MacFarlane and two modern dances which are not part of ‘The MacNab Collection’ but just tacked on by Jean Milligan at the time as a way of publishing them. Flies in the ointment you might say. Best wishes, Stephen

I have added From Scotia’s Shores… and McNeil of Barra as 3rd and 4th dances in this publication and updated the extra info.
