Description

Bonnie Brux what has happened to Angus Henry’s diagram? From message 47946 (strathspey archives): At the end Angus Henry writes about the Pilling-like diagram: For an example, I have recently drawn up the first draft of the old dance “Bonnie Brux” and sent it to Anselm (as attachments are not permitted on SS) who might make it available. Perhaps Angus can give an update? Shall I contact him?

Hi Wanda, Angus’ message dates back to 2007. For a few years now, diagrams can only be uploaded if they are available in SVG format of a certain kind. Scanned or scribbled versions are of no help to us; for sure we cannot repaint them to make them fit to our system. Even IF Angus Henry could deliver SVG formats we would have to find a way to bring them publicly online as we are restricted on that matter in some form (can’t explain in full detail, but that’s how it is). I think to some extent nothing can really be done about this issue for now. Setting it to “ignore” for the time being to reflect that this is kind of a “dead end issue” we have to live with.

I have a feeling that when Angus Henry MacNab diagrams were added to SCDDB, as a separate “diagram source”, people may have to explicitly select that new source in their profile. Hopefully if new diagram (or crib) sources are added those would be automatically added to the end of the enabled sources.

I don’t seem to have that diagram (anymore).

When we added Angus’s MacNab diagrams the problem was that they were in some pixel-oriented format (PNG or JPEG, I don’t recall). We require diagrams in the database to be in SVG, and after some back-and-forth Keith Rose eventually did some fancy footwork with a pixels-format-to-SVG conversion web site in order to come up with SVG versions. Keith volujnteered for this job so we could publish Angus’s diagrams, which are unique works of art filling an important void and deserve the exposure, but it’s enough of a hassle that we don’t generally do this for random diagrams that people send us.
