Description

I have seen the original instructions and although it says lead out, there is no crossing over at either side at all? passing through the two men first the man goes round 2nd man and the lady round 3rd man , despite starting this with RHJ. They repeat this going between the two ladies, now they do cross lady going round 2nd lady and man round 3rd lady both ending 2nd place own side.

The scan of the instructions I have does mention crossing in both bar 25-28 and 29-32.
25-28: 1st couple lead out between 2nd and 3rd men, 1st woman crossing in front of her partner to dance down round 3rd man while 1st man dances up round 2nd man. 1st couple meet in the middle facing the women’s side of the set.

Are there multiple versions of this dance? Or perhaps an original corrected in a reprint?

The transition on bars 24-25 is indeed rather odd. On 23-24 1c turns 2cnr BH, 1W is making her turn below 1M. But they finish RHJ facing M side, with 1W on the R of (i.e. above) 1M. Then on [25] they lead out and cross so 1W casts down round 3M and 1M casts up round 2M. To be polite 1W will cross in front of 1M. But that does not fit well with RHJ. It would fit better with LHJ; then 1M could lead 1W across in front. Now the RHJ gets in the way. Poor choreography. I see no error in the cribs or diagrams. Does anyone have further comments? Eric
