Description

Hello Team Thank you very much for your contribution to the SCD Data Base.

  1. I use this comment button because there is no one in the Overview section.

  2. In the Overview of the Circle Waltz it is stated, that it is part of A Guide to Scottish Country Dancing (ex-Collins). Clicking on the link, I cannot see this dance. Neither in the Dance list, nor in the two columns Diagram list. Where is the mistake?

  3. In the section people, Alex Moore (1993), is «only» a devisor of dances. There is no other information.

Is this Alex Moore MBE, the famous professional modern ballroom dance competitor, judge, teacher and author of many publications, like “Ballroom Dancing” and the «Revised Technique of Modern Ballroom Dancing» the book, which for generations has been the «Manual» for all dance teachers of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing? The society, which, by the way published also its own SC dance books, which the RSCD published much later?

Dear Peter Mayer,

unfortunately, we do not have any information about whether the deviser of the “Circle Waltz” has anything to do with the author of the “Revised technique of ballroom dancing” (I still remember that book from my former life as a ballroom dancer, many years back).

I cannot find any sources online that mention Alex Moore in conjunction with ballroom and ceilidh dances or the circle waltz on the same page.

Furthermore, the Collins Edition of “Scottish Country Dancing” only mentions “Source: originally devised by Alex Moore. Collected by Mary Stoker.” So, that also does not produce a link.

I do not understan why you cannot see the Circle Waltz amongst the dances of the book. The dances are listed in the order of pages they are printed on and the dances are listed in chunks of 25. Since the Circle Waltz is published on page 258, it appears in the 4th out of 5 chunks. Note, that the book starts with technique an formations, dances only start from page 94.

Sorry that I cannot help you further with your questions about Alex Moore.

Best regards, Heiko
