Thanks.

Unfortunately it seems we have two tune entries both called Ada Johnstone’s Fancy. This earlier one attributed to Jim Johnstone (https://my.strathspey.org/dd/tune/3885/) and a later one attributed to Ian Holmes (https://my.strathspey.org/dd/tune/10726/).

The earlier entry appears in five recordings, the later entry just in one.

Before merging the two entries we ought to check they really all are the same tune in case one of them is just not published anywhere.

I have the Colin Dewar recording (The Luckenbooth Brooch) . The CD insert for that does say “Ada Johnstone’s Fancy (J Johnstone)”.

However I also have the one recording (by Ian Robertson & Rob Alderton) of the “Ian Holmes” tune. That sounds the same to me, but their CD insert attributes it to Ian Holmes.

I think for the moment I have just added extra notes to the two tunes.

Hi Murrough, can you check the Ian Holmes details on the CD? Our database says that the tune used there is called Ada Johnstone’s JIG, not FANCY. There might be an additional issue with a third entry for “Ada Johnstone” related tunes.

Hi Viktor, I checked the CD insert for Double Take. The second tune is called “Ada Johnstone’s Fancy” and is attributed to Ian Holmes. I also checked the Dewar Luckenbooth Brooch CD insert and that also definitely says “Ada Johnstone’s Fancy” as well.

However while checking the Double Take insert I noticed the first tune, which in SCDDB for that recording is “Para Handy” by “Ian Gourlay”, is attributed on the Double Take CD to Phil Cunningham. A quick web search suggests there are possibly two different tunes of the same name, one a polka and the other a jig. Apparently from two different TV series of an original book. Or perhaps Phil Cunningham made a revised version of the original tune by Ian Gourlay. For the moment I have just added a note on the Para Handy tune.
