Issue 3170: Date devised probably incorrect

Object
Sugar and Spice (Dance)
Submitter

Priority

Disposition

Description

According to the Extra Info the entry was added because it was needed for a Dance List (which were created in 2018) whereas on the Overall page the date devised is given as 2002!

Also, the instructions are given as being from MiniCribs whereas the crib is given as being SCDDB Contributed.

These details need to be sorted out!

Presumably the dance was devised in 2002 but the SCDDB entry was created in 2018 (as Eric’s “extra info” suggests). No action required.

The current MiniCrib collection doesn’t contain a crib for this dance, which is why there isn’t a MiniCrib on the cribs/diagrams tab. But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t third-party MiniCrib-style cribs floating around for rarely-seen or local dances which make it onto function programmes but never get submitted to the MiniCribs team. I don’t know where this contributed crib comes from — it doesn’t give a user name, which would suggest that a database editor (Eric?) added it via the admin interface. From a style POV it does resemble a MiniCrib more than an e-crib, so perhaps whoever put in the crib was in a hurry and added it verbatim from some ball programme or other (which is something that we frown upon in general but can’t easily control). Again, I don’t think any immediate action is required here.

I knew a Paul Suttie (as a “friend of a friend”) in Edinburgh in the late 1980s who I think moved to Cambridge later, so perhaps it’s the same guy. It might be worth inquiring with the Cambridge people as to the status of this dance.
