Description

Zoltán Gräff pointed out to me that this publication is an incomplete duplicate of the first Budapest book: A Reel Goulash (https://my.strathspey.org/dd/publication/1109/).

I asked Zoltán if there was a first publication and revised edition but apparently not. Possibly a subset of the dances in the book were published online first. That might explain why this entry has a low ID (380 vs 1109 for the final printed book). The publication date of this entry is given as 2005 whereas the #1109 book was actually published in 2011.

Zoltán asks for this publication to be deleted leaving only publication #1109.

Before I do this, do any other editors know if there are reasons to keep this entry? And/or know why we ended up with two entries?

NB there is another duplicate (https://my.strathspey.org/dd/publication/1346/) which claims to be the 2nd Budapest book but actually lists the same dances as this incomplete entry for the 1st book. I will make a separate issue for that one.

I removed the duplicate dances which were published in A Reel Goulash. But for the moment I left this publication entry as a possible placeholder for dances as yet unpublished in book form but which have instructions available on their website.

Dear Murrough, there were 2 Volumes of “Dances of the Budapest Scottish Dance Club” which were published as PDF online. Vol 1 was published 2005, Vol. 2 2011.

I think they were taken offline sometime after A Reel Goulash was published in 2011.

Volume 1 from 2005 contains:

  1. The Donau Strathspey
  2. First Ray of the Sun
  3. Gábor’s Wedding
  4. Perpeetum Mobile
  5. Seven to Seven
  6. The Siege of Buda
  7. Summer Rain

Volume 2 from 2011 contains:

  1. The Donau Strathspey
  2. First Ray of the Sun
  3. Gábor’s Wedding
  4. Perpeetum Mobile
  5. Seven to Seven
  6. The Siege of Buda
  7. Summer Rain
  8. Be my partner

Yes, there is an overlap to A Reel Goulash. However, the two Volumes of “Dances of the Budapest Scottish Dance Club” should remain in SCDDB because (a) they have officially been published and (b) there are people who have and use those (like me).

I volunteer the (re)enter both volumes of Dances of the Budapest Scottish Dance Club again.

Best wishes,
Heiko

Interesting. I specifically asked Zoltan Gräff if there was any prior publication and he explicitly said not.

And I had no other objections to the original issues I entered a couple of months ago.

I only actually deleted the Book 2 entry as that seemed to be just a copy of the Book 1. I just repurposed the Book 1 entry to have as yet unpublished dances from Budapest. But that could be reverted to the original.

Im happy for you to enter them again. Maybe you could add some history and links to the Reel Goulash book? I will assign the issue to you.

Dear Murrough,

I have re-entered the Volumes 1 and 2, including remarks that they have a strong overlap, that their dances have been included in “A Reel Goulash”, and also links to the original PDFs stored in the Internet Archive.

So Zoltan Gräff cannot deny that they have existed ;o)

One question about a Budapest-related dance - you have devised the dance “View from Buda” which was taugh in Vienna by Gabor. Would it be possible that you enter that dance into SCDDB? We would like to add the link to our list of dances taught in Vienna.

All the best, Heiko

Ah yes - and I have added cross-references in the extra info of A Reel Goulash.

All fixed now.
