Description

Album 982 The Scottish Sound of the Bill Hendry Dance Band is a CD reissue of album 239 The Scottish Sound of the Bill Hendry Band. The track details are all the same, but the album has been re-sequenced, so we probably need to to keep both albums.

The tracks have been duplicated. Most of the useful information, like the tune lists, are on the later entries. I’ve raised one issue on the album rather than 16 issues for each of the the duplicated tracks. Where there is some information on the earlier track that needs to be copied (mostly phasing and a few dances that have been linked) I’ve noted that.

Another policy question for Anselm.

I think what we generally do if there are LP and CD issues for the same album is have one Album entry with two different “media”. However here the original LP and CD have different names and it seems that Albums do not have name aliases. So perhaps we have to leave two separate Album entries, but we could just link the same Recordings to both? That would be simpler than copying across all the tunes etc.

Normally what we do is if a LP is reissued as a CD, then if the track order is identical we only add a media entry. If the track order is different then there should be a new Album entry for the CD, using the existing Recordings but in the new order. Sometimes there are “bonus tracks” which would require new Recording entries.

We don’t have “album aliases” so if a LP is reissued as a CD under a different name, then the approach is like the one with the varying track order – there should be a new Album entry which links to the existing Recordings. We could add a note that CD X is a reissue of LP Y to both Albums.
