Description

This is the recording to which Pam Stephens composed the dance “Something in the Air” (RSCDS Book 53). The dance was originally intended to be a 6x32S2 to the song air tunes (both original and traditional) in Track 11 (“Set of Song Airs – 6x32 Strathspey”) on our 2018 album “A Dancer’s Best Friend.” Pam devised the dance in response to the challenge I wrote in our liner notes for the track: “Three of these tunes are drawn from the earliest published books of Scottish fiddle tunes. Woe’s my Heart and Cousin Cole’s (aka Pique’s) come from Henry Playford’s Collection of 1700, while If Thou Were Mine Own Thing comes from John Young’s Collection, c. 1710. Two of Liz [Donaldson]'s lovely compositions, Air in F (2010), and the oft-requested Dreams Vanished (1995), fit seamlessly with the early music. Now if only someone would devise a dance that suits this set of airs…” Pam Stephens responded to this challenge, and presented us with Something in the Air on August 21, 2019.
