Issue 3569: Pipe Major(s) Robertson

Object
Vocal Selection: Warren Beesley (Recording)
Submitter
Finlay Forbes
Assigned to
Murrough Landon
Priority
Normal
Disposition
Fixed
Description

I don’t believe that the Pipe Major in question is James Blair Robertson, who hailed from Dundee. The Pipe Major Robertson who wrote the tune was James Robertson (1886 – 1961)from Portsoy. The letter “B” may be spurious.

This would make sense because “The Creeks” were in his local area.

Thanks (continued from https://my.strathspey.org/dd/issue/3568/).

In my quick search last night I didnt spot the database already has P/M James R Robertson (https://my.strathspey.org/dd/person/1515/) and also has his tune Farewell to the Creeks. I have now assigned that as the tune for this recording and added some extra info. For the moment I left the entries for The Banks of Sicily and Hamish Henderson though I suppose they are not really either tune or composer. Perhaps leaving them with notes may prevent future confusion.
